I have the weirdest problem.
I am going to New York for the Thanksgiving week. On Thursday we will be visiting family, on Friday we will be going to see an art collection in Philadelphia. On Saturday I will be meeting Kim to do a yarn crawl of northern New Jersey before I head to Newark airport to come home. That means I have Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to ...
What?
My sister is working on Monday and... Wednesday, I think. I think I will go to the Museum of Art and Design on Tuesday. But strangely, I am not sure what to do with myself on Monday and Wednesday. Monday all the museums are closed. I love walking through the city but I will have the whole day. I think what I would like to do is find some funky little shops, and look for interesting things. But SoHo these days is all chain stores (Abercrombie and Fitch, anyone?). So I am not sure where to go. Any ideas?
I don't know the newly hip areas of Brooklyn, and a few, I think, got washed out by Hurricane Sandy. But I can ask my sister about where I could go, and if the subways are running there. The MTA page indicates which areas are still without subway service, and it appears to be only the shore areas.
Yeah, I think I want to wander into interesting little stores, maybe consignment stores. Know of anyplace interesting?
Obligatory fiber arts content: I have started the second section of the Ribs and Bobbles vest pattern -- a twisted rib.
I like the way it looks, and I really like working each section on each piece. So I have been pretty good about sticking to this project. I did crochet a keyhole scarf, my first completed crochet project. The idea was to donate it. I don't much support the usual waves of "oh we have to knit for the victims of disasters." I figure they need trash bags, winter coats and bleach in Howard Beach. But for the first time I really had the urge to make something to give. I don't love the scarf, but it works, and so it will go into a charity basket somewhere.
