Nothing keeps my attention at the moment. I am reading the last few pages of mysteries first, since I can't be bothered to read the whole thing. I don't want to knit, but I want to do SOMETHING. That SOMETHING remains undefined and undefinable. I know what this means. It means it's March. I've-run-out-of-winter-fortitude March. I-don't-wanna March. I'm-not-listening March. I'd-rather-sleep March. March blahs.
Weirdly enough, I will swatch in March. And did. And I learned something I already know. Here are the
swatches. The one on the right is Kid Merino in the Fall Herbs colorway in stockinette, on smaller and smaller needles. The swatch on the left is Kid Merino Fall Herbs in garter stitch.
So what did I learn? Again? That I like most variegated yarns better in the skein than knit up. That I like them better in garter. So I will either carry this along with a solid, or maybe, maybe, try the Spinner's Shawl with this yarn. The Spinner's Shawl has large enough sections of solid knitting in garter stitch, and a simple l
ace pattern, so these two might work together. Or, I might combine this with Kid Merino in indigo, and try this pattern from Crystal Palace. Which will remind me that I don't like way shrugs frame my boobs. So this may push me into designing a little lace cardigan -- something like this but with an actual front to the garment. On the other hand, the wide sleeve might make this style acceptable.
Can you tell it's March?

Oh boy - do I hear you! March seems to have no answers at all - just endless farting around and treading water.
I'm with you on the variegated yarn too - though I had never been able to articulate that before I read this post. The colors look grand in the hank but when they're worked up? NOt so much...
I suppose we'll come out of it all right in the end and drop into April where, perhaps, an idea or two may present itself. In the mean time, swatching may provide its own rewards. Even if it's only that we can't tear our hair out while our hands are full of sticks and string :)

Where can I see a photo of the Spinner's Shawl? It sounds intriguing. :) March blahs? I've been car shopping for 3 weeks. Every night after work, I slog around to 3 different dealerships, trying to find a car that will haul my walker and my spinning wheel at the same time, with room for me and my dog, too. I'm exhausted with looking and not sleeping much. I think I got it narrowed down to 2 or maybe 3 cars. Now I need to do my taxes, get my refund and buy the sucker!

Sande,
when I needed a car that would haul me, some friends, a cello, and a large dog, I ended up with a Subaru Outback station wagon. The Spinner's shawl is a Fiber Trends pattern that can be seen at http://www.fibertrends.com/viewer/patterns/S2017.htm and there is a lovely finished one on view on this blog: http://www.mamaliz.org/blogs/pinktea/archives/001271.html

Hi, Rob Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me the info about the Spinner's Shawl. I looked at the Subarus - they actually have a couple of cars of the right configuration, but neither of them was large enough in the back to accommodate my wheel, let along the walker. I'm thinking I'll probably wind up with a Ford FreeStyle. I can remove the 3rd row seat and have a huge cargo area plus a bench seat in the middle row for my dog to stretch out on. Just need to get my refund and do it. sandeleh@sbcglobal.net
